Africa Is a continent that is full of diversities in terms of people and culture. Despite these differences the people lives in peace with occasional conflicts among people of different culture. It even be said that, misunderstanding among intra-cultural group is even higher than conflicts among inter-cultural groups. It would be logical to conclude that African deals with diversities better than that of Europe and other continents. That notwithstanding, the menace of ethnocentrism is still prevalence in some parts of Africa. The term ethnocentrism refers to the belief that one's own culture is superior to other culture and thus you judge other cultures using your own yardstick and ideas. Anthropologists generally agreed that ethnocentrism is found in every culture. Every culture sees its practice as superior to all other cultures.

In as much as some may argue that cultural ethnocentrism brings about cohesiveness among people of the same culture, the practice also come with some dire consequence if goes unchecked and can come back to eat the society(culture) itself because it is always at the blind spot of the society.
In Ghana, highly competent skilled persons are denied job due to the ethnic and cultural affiliations. Marriages are collapsing day-in-day out due to ethnocentrism. Societies are failing to adopt to new lifestyle or models of other culture because they view them as inferior to their culture. Ethnocentrism makes it difficult to even appreciate the bad things within your culture that is inimical the growth of the society. The Ghanaian society today is divided among ethnic line that does nothing but deepening the porousness and disunity among us. The Fulani pastoralists are always looked down upon and treated as third-class citizens. The ethnocentric comments and tribal bigotry in the county is now the new normal.

I do not intend to go deep into this creeping disease for now. I intend to remind you from making comment that seeks to make your culture superior to other cultures. The moment you look down on someone based on his cultural identity of affiliations, remember you are nothing but a bigot with a disease in your heart that needs to cured.
