The soup was already done; I wasn’t feeling well, but a friend offered to make some soup for me to eat. I accepted. It was a very large pot, enough for the whole family. I was visiting a friend’s house when I started feeling sick. They were nine siblings, and I was visiting them there.
After about three hours of cooking bones with meat and vegetables, the soup was ready. At that moment, it occurred to me to add two eggs to the soup so I could eat them after turning off the stove.
My friend went out to the pantry and then gave me the eggs.
I took them and turned off the heat to add one egg and then the other. As I was adding them, I smelled a strong rotten odor. It was coming from the eggs. I had just dropped two rotten eggs into this large pot of soup that was already ready.
I looked at my friend’s face and realized with astonishment that I had ruined this lunch by adding a couple of rotten eggs to a delicious soup.
