Hello everyone, during the last weekend I went to place called “Lau Fau Shan”.
Lau Fau Shan seafood fishing village is located in Yuen long district which is part of the New territories in Hong Kong.
In Lau Fau Shan village you will find basically all dried and fresh seafood; however the main star is the dried and fresh oyster 🦪. In this area there is a big oyster farm owned by the villagers and you can trade directly with them.
Depending of the kind of oyster; there are different ways to prepare, some can be added just lemon with salt; but around here the Oyster is very nice fried, with congee or steamed.
Apart from the oyster, also you will see a special kind of fish which is grouper fish in this kind of fish the most known are Giant grouper and Goliat grouper which is one of the highly demanded in Cantonese cuisine because the meat of this fish is exquisite.
Another thing you could do here is appreciate the sunset, because Lau Fau Shan is in the opposite side of Shenzhen city and you could appreciate the skyscrapers of this city, but this depends of the weather conditions; sometimes is foggy or the pollution won’t allow to have a clear view of the landscape.
In case you feel hungry, do not worry, because here you could find so many restaurants or you could try the different snacks selling in the street market, just be aware of the dishes prices before you order them.
How to go this place, you need take the West Rail line and go to Yuen Long metro station and then exit F here is located the bus terminus, look for bus number K65, the bus frequency is every 9 or 16 minutes; the price is 4.8HKD(0.6USD); you could wait in another specific bus stops around Yuen Long but you may not find a seat specially on weekends or public holidays.
In conclusion, although Lau Fau Shan is just a small village, however it has their unique attractions, from its street market and oyster food to the nice sunset view together with the landscape of Shenzhen city and if you ever visit Hong Kong and you like the aventure you should visit this place, but please remember to bring your 🦟 mosquito repellent.
