I cannot claim to be that well acquainted with the situation developing in Venezuela....yet; but at first glance I see that the US is siding with the opposition in that country that refuses to participate in a referendum, the ultimate expression of democracy, and Washington slaps sanctions against that country's elected President, whom the opposition refers to as a "Communist dictator".
This alone fits the pattern of every CIA regime change operation we have witnessed over many decades.
A) Get the opposition to front violent riots in the streets where innocent people die.
B) Refuse to take part in a democratic process where the true will of the people may not support your positions.
C) Call the elected leader a "Communist dictator" and demand that he steps down.
D) Washington imposes sanctions on the country's leadership.
How is this any different to what took place in Ukraine recently? The only thing missing here is Victoria Nuland with her bag of cookies and John McCain shouting "America is with you, I am with you". (Note: John McCain was "with" the leaders of ISIS too; plenty of photographic evidence to attest to that.)
