Hello all! On this day Geopolis has been active for exactly 100 days and more than 500 posts have been supported!. For this occasion some statistics have been gathered to summarize these past months and to show where we came from and what you can expect in the near future.
In the beginning...
A little more than 100 days ago, I (@samve) had gotten to know Steemit and the Steem blockchain. I was already active for a while and truly believed (and still believe) in the great potential of the platform. I was amazed by the amount of interaction between users and how nice everyone could be. One thing I still missed were communities based on certain fields, and in my case, earth sciences specifically. @SteemStem is probably one of the biggest communities but often I felt I could not reach like minded people as the different branches in earth sciences do not always fully overlap with Science Technology, Engineering or Mathematics.
Enthusiastic as I was, I decided I had to found a new community focusing on earth sciences, both "physical" (geology, geography...) and "social" (anthropology, geography, history...). Rather quickly concepts where thought out and I had an idea of what the project would become. The first concepts were based on the way @SteemStem works. Curating great authors and inducing interaction between like minded people. To make everything more practical, Ways of generating income had to be thought out. That is where @qurator was used as inspiration and they also helped out with practical questions I had. Big thanks to them!
Of course it would be a tremendous amount of work to manually go through all posts written in certain categories, so I learned myself to code in python and set up a code to read the blockchain that would make curating way easier.
Eventually Everything was set up, an initial logo was made and shortly after replaced by a more permanent logo and banner. Members started to flow in, enthusiasm was high and the project was operational.
Memberships
In the first weeks, the discord slowly started to fill up and more and more people became members. Currently we are at a stable 54 members but it would be nice to see that increase even further as it provides a source of income for the project and would increase the amount of interaction between authors.
If you still know people who might be interested in the Steemit platform that you haven't invited already, their introduction to the platform can be beneficial to everyone!
Payout and Voting Power
The current way SBD flows into the project is through membership fees, post payout of Daily Field Notes and upvotes on our own posts. In the initial first few weeks we see a strong increase in payout received from Daily Field Notes and this is mainly from support received by other people. Thanks @Ausbitbank for al the support, it really helped a lot. After those week we see the payout stabilizing at 1.50 SBD and slowly rising.
Self voting is currently being countered by @sadkitten. Their initiative is truly an addition to the platform in most cases. Sadly for this project, where all funds flow back to the members eventually, it causes us to lose part of the income.
On average, geopolis has about 2.000 SP. This allows us to upvote posts with rewards between 0.01 and 0.35 SBD. If our Daily Field Notes continue to be worth +- 1.5 SBD, a 4 weekly income of 42 SBD can be expected. This in result would provide a Steem Power Lease of 1700 SP for 4 weeks on the current markets, eventually leading to rewards given by Geopolis ranging from 0.01 to 0.30 SBD.
When are you all active:
Here is another nice representation to see on which days Geopolis is the most successful. Feel free to comment below what trends you see here. I would love to hear possible reasons that explain these relatively strong differences between days!
