Geography: Factors that caused the desiccation of a lake in Bolivia and environmental consequences

Poopó, a lake of 2400 km2 of salty water with an average depth of three meters, located on a high plateau in the department of Oruro in Bolivia, has been the center of the economy of surrounding villages for generations.

Humble and hard-working people who have lived by fishing and hunting for years and who have more than once seen their waters disappear and appear due to environmental effects. They are communities with a high rate of poverty and lack of basic services. Drinking water is one of the most critical and that has generated the proliferation of diseases by the consumption of contaminated water.

Nature is beautiful, amazingly unique, and awesomely vibrant. Yes she is, but sometimes, a lot of things can seem to *"go wrong"*. And cause some unpleasant occurrences as we are aware of today. Many of these times however, human factor is also present as the causative or sometimes, negligence is the issue. Something seems to be going wrong around us but we sort of take our eyes and/or mind off it and we pretend not to see it and that goes on until the issue gets out of hand. Well I expect you to have an idea of what I'm talking about, let's go on. Since I was born (and even years before then), I have always known that the earth is spherical (flat earthers, please keep off) and hasn't changed or has it? Well, looking at the earth from space (if you have ever been to space or with the aid of satellite images all over the internet) the shape has actually been the same but a little close and personal, the surface of the earth (the land surface to be precise) has been changing over the years. What has been the cause of this change? Wait a little while.

When it hasn't rained in a while, the river level drops enough that it is both safe, and pleasant, to visit certain areas with good access. During one sunny day we wandered down to our favourite spot. The local river is really nice, and clean , and there is always wildlife to watch out for . There is a downside to having low water levels during summer however, and that is the dangers of the deadly toxic algae bloom , the ingestion of which can cause illness and even death. Dog owners cannot let their pets swim in or drink the water either.
