Guess what city I want to show you some shots today? 馃槀
In these foggy days I've been sorting out the photos of the little trips I've done this summer, unfortunately not many because of Covid-19, but I'm not complaining.
And here is Valencia!
How not to be impressed by the fantastic structures of the "Ciudad de las Artes y las Ci猫ncias" as it is called in Valencian?
I fell in love with it and with this post I want to try to show you these open-air amazing artworks.
It is called a city for a reason: it is composed of as many as 9 different buildings and each with different functions.
From oldest to newest, with their original names, we can find:
- The Hemisf猫ric (1998), home of the IMAX cinema, a planetarium and a laserium. It is the structure behind me in the first photo and is also present in the second photo, doesn't it look like a submarine?
- Museu de les Ci猫ncies Pr铆ncipe Felipe (2000), an interactive science museum. This is the building in the background always in the second photo and on the left in the picture below.
- The Umbracle (2001) is like a large elevated garden composed of exotic plants and palm trees. From this point there is a complete view of the two previous structures and the Turia.
- The Oceanogr脿phic (2003), an open-air oceanographic park. The largest oceanographic aquarium in Europe. In this case the photo is taken from google for completeness as it was not possible for me to take photos inside the structure.
- The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia (2005) is an opera house and performing arts centre dedicated to music and the performing arts. This is by far my favourite building.
- Montolivet Bridge (2007), a simple and beatiful road bridge crossing the Turia
- Assut de l'Or Bridge (2008) a white cable-stayed bridge sustained by a curved pylon crossing the dry Turia. It is placed between El Museu de les Ci猫ncies and L'Agora (Google Pic).
- L'脌gora (2009) is a space designed to hold a variety of events such as concerts, performances, exhibitions, conventions, staging of congresses, and international sports meetings (Google Pic).
- Valencia Towers, not yet completed.
I didn't know it when I arrived in Valencia, but there was a big surprise waiting for me. Let's say I had been very, very lucky!
I arrived in the city on exactly the same day as an LGBT+ parade and for the occasion the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia was lit up with the colours of the LGBT+ community.
Normally all the buildings are illuminated by night and offer fantastic emotions, I assure you that live it is a breathtaking spectacle.
I tried to capture the beauty of these monuments with the help of my tripod and my faithful Canon eos800d and I have to say that I am very satisfied with the result of photographing L'Hemisf猫ric.
It's wonderful the effect you achieve with a long exposure, the light is exactly the same as in the real scene and each mirror of water seems covered by a thin veil of silk.
To fully enjoy the view, I also visited a panoramic terrace overlooking the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ci猫ncias. Here you can better see what I was saying before, the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia illuminated with the colours of the rainbow. Also to get this photo I used a tripod and an exposure higher than a second.
