It has occurred to me that today marks the end of the first two weeks of the New Year. If the rest of the year carries on in the manner that it has started, I am definitely going to have to up my supplementation regimen.
The first week of the year found me assaulted by whatever pathogen (take your pick) that has been sweeping the Northern Hemisphere. Fine, whatever viruses, I known your ploy and my immune system prevailed.
I try to post at least every other day. I feel like it's a nice balance between staying consistent and having enough creative reserves to really post something worthwhile. It works for me.
Well, I haven't posted in five days, and that's because for whatever reason, my entire left side of my head filled up with fluid. I'm talking my ear, my jaw, even my wisdom teeth became inflamed.
Nerve pain is the worst. And I was under a constant barrage of random excess fluid-caused inflamed nerve assault. It was fun.
Because I have a farm and I am a parent, it's not like I could completely hide and convalesce. But there were a few nice things that happened while in fluid build up nerve pain hell.
One, my concussed son got his follow up exam and he is healed and released to go back into the wild. I'm actually very pleased about that, I am just sure that I didn't look as pleased as I was. Because I was a walking zombie yesterday.
Two, over the last three days I have reread almost the entire Harry Potter series. Fun fact about me, when I am sick or in pain I can read extremely fast. My favorite go to when I am miserable series are either Harry or The Little House On The Prairie books. It's like a heated rice bag for my soul.
Three, my pets are awesome. My cowboy corgi and cadre of cats have been in noble form during my extended ailing. My feet and abdomen never lacked a living corpse warming creature. It was one of the only pleasant bits about this past week.
Well that and the great corgi ice incident. The morning my whole inflammatory excitement began, I was out at the barn feeding the ducks and ended up having a good laugh on the way back to the house. Cora likes to sit at the barn gate and wait until I come out the barn door. As soon as I shut the door I will turn around and say, Well, come here. and she will run at me like a bullet of corgi happiness. Usually, she stops and gives me all sorts of wiggle butt greetings.
The thing is, our entire farm, where plowed, is covered with a solid sheet of ice. And that day there was a tiny little skiff of snow covering the ice.
As Cora flew towards me across the ice, I saw that she was spinning out a bit, her little paws flailing, but if anything the ice gave her derp speed, and by the time she got three feet from me I saw her eyes bulge in panic.
Since I am short and always crouch in anticipation of her happy greeting that I emerged from the barn unscathed, I didn't have far to fall, and I was laughing when I hit the ice.
Cora, she was traumatized and had a look that screamed, I killed my mom!.
Like I would be mad at my faithful little companion. I do have a rather nice bruise on my left leg where she took me out though.
With a new week starting soon, it's my hope that I get to have maybe a not so tribulation-filled few days, at least health-wise. That would be nice.
But really, it all just means I am alive, and I am beyond okay with that.
And as most of the time, all of the images in this post were taken on the author's never ill but at times tempestuous iPhone.
