Hello everyone, especially the women of this wonderful community! I’m back again to share my entry for the weekly “Women of the Hive” contest. This week’s questions were suggested by priyanarc@priyanarc and are as follows: Do you think society expects women to be strong all the time, even when they need support? Can a woman be happy with her life even if it doesn’t turn out the way she once imagined?

Reflecting on Question 1, my answer is: Definitely yes. We live in a world structured under the unspoken rule that women must be indestructible pillars capable of carrying absolutely everything on our backs. There is enormous social and cultural pressure that demands we be the ones to solve problems at home, excel at work, sustain our family lives, and keep a smile on our faces while doing it all. The most serious aspect of this situation is that, despite the immense physical, mental, and emotional strain this entails, society often downplays this effort, assuming that we aren’t doing anything important or that we’re simply fulfilling a natural obligation.

The idea of the “strong woman” has been romanticized, but that label becomes a prison when it prevents us from asking for help. It’s all too often forgotten that we, too, get tired, that we have days of utter fragility, and that true strength doesn’t lie in enduring suffering in silence, but in having real support networks. I believe we need safe spaces where we’re allowed to let down our armor, be vulnerable, and receive the same care and support that we spend our entire lives giving to others.

I feel like Question 2 is directed at me, and of course the answer is yes—and I say this with complete confidence and based on my personal experience. If someone had asked me a few years ago what my ultimate goal in life was, I would have answered without hesitation that I wanted to be a great doctor; that was the exact, rigid, and detailed plan I had designed for my future. However, life’s paths are often unpredictable, and circumstances force us to change course. Today, my reality is completely different from that initial plan; I’m a nutritionist in training—I’ve already completed my TSU and am now pursuing my bachelor’s degree. I must confess that letting go of that old dream wasn’t easy at first, but this turn my destiny took has brought me a sense of fulfillment and immense happiness that I never imagined I’d find in this field. Over time, I’ve come to understand that health and well-being can be positively influenced from many different angles. I’ve learned that happiness doesn’t lie in strictly following the script we wrote when we were younger, but in having the maturity to embrace the new opportunities that come our way. Redefining our goals isn’t a failure; on the contrary, finding passion in what we do today and understanding that changing direction is also a beautiful way to grow is what truly fulfills us.
