We lie to ourselves in order to make ourselves feel better. We lie to ourselves to avoid facing the uncomfortable truth. We lie to ourselves to protect our conscience.
Meanwhile, over here, I lie to myself to make myself feel worse...
I kinda know what you're talking about though. Part of me wanted to try to apply everything you were saying to myself. I don't fear looking at myself though. Though I do kind of try to ignore some flaws that I have. But most of them I'm well aware of...and it's not like I can necessarily do much about it. As humans we can be introspective and try to change ourselves...but at a certain point you have to just accept who you are, even as you try to change yourself.
While I would hope that others are similar in some ways, and at least try to be better people, I know that most people aren't actually that way. Some are in fact just horrible human beings that make my face deform in horror unknown to some. Many don't even know how horrible they are.
I'm not unaware of my own problems...but lately...I've really not liked what I've seen as it becomes more and more obvious to me that some people are just fundamentally different. They don't have empathy. They don't worry about people all over the world. They don't worry about the poor. Here I am feeling like the idiot because what I thought was normal, even though I know I'm not, is not.
But, I still kinda wanna ignore my own problems to a certain degree, because it is pretty hard to address all of them, and I don't feel that bad about most of my flaws. A few of them should probably be addressed though. Hopefully I'll get back into working out. Hopefully I'll try to be more understanding. Hopefully I'll get better at trying to be better. And hopefully more people will take a look at themselves occasionally and try better themselves.
But we all kinda need help. Eventually some of us are gonna have to get together and start working on improving things, so they start getting a bit better.
