Trying to buy at the bottom is often referred to as trying to catch a falling dagger.
It takes a lot of practice, and even then it's still very dangerous.
Instead I look at the chart, try to figure out where I think it's going to go, and position buys at key resistance lines above and below, and debate on what level of risk I'm going to put at every level. Then at any point I can adjust those buys, or sell to buy lower if it's clear it will go lower. I might lose a bit by buying in too high, but I also lose out on potential gains if it bounces off that point. Similarly, it could go way lower than I think.
You can't decide on one place to buy in. It's too risky. You gotta hedge your bets and have multiple calculated buys and sells.
Also gotta continuously battle fear and uncertainty. In some ways losses are paying a toll to conquer that beast.
