Hello. I’ve been absent a lot of time in Steemit due that I’ve had too much work to do in university. However, I’ve keep drawing.

Right now, I’m learning about perspective. The exercise I’ll show contains 3 aspects:

  • Horizon line
  • Sight Line
  • Vanishing Points

Horizon line

It is a horizontal line where all of the lines of our sight plane converge (end). The “sky” falls over it and the “floor” rises into it.

Sight Line

It is a vertical line, perpendicular to the horizon line, that defines the position of the sight over it. The objects to right and to left of the sight line goes towards it.

Vanishing Points

Those are where the lines of the composition concentrate. They usually are over the horizon line or the sight line. There could be 1, 2 or even 4 vanishing points in a composition.

Drawing buildings

The first thing I did was to trace the horizon line (L.H. in Spanish), the sight line and my 2 vanishing points (P.F. in Spanish):

Then I traced all the corresponding guide lines of my composition towards the upper vanishing point:

After it, I traced the corresponding guide lines towards the lower vanishing point:

Then I traced horizontal lines to cut the guide lines I drew before, to define the buildings and the street:

Then I erased the guide lines and I defined a bit better the lines of the composition:

After it, I decided to ink the composition, using a technical pen:

Finally, I cleaned the composition the best I could and I added shadows:

Up here you can see the final work and compare it with the reference :)

Suggestions

  • My professor told me that I can use rulers to do the guide lines, using the pencil softly, to save time. But that nevertheless I should do the lines of the buildings by hand.
  • I think that doing all the guide lines at once is confusing and one can get lost. So, one could make one structure (in this case a building) at time.

That’s all for now. Thank you very much to see it and for your support. As always, suggestions and comments are welcome.
