NASA just captured images of a supernova. The explosion of KSN 2011 was 1.2 billion light years from earth. Using the Kepler telescope, NASA has been collecting data from 500 galaxies. Looking through trillions of star images, NASA chose a few with signs of supernovae. NASA caught the beginning part of the supernova process…the “shock breakout.”
