Under the warm shed of an almond tree
The blazing sun peeping from the sky at three
I found myself lying in wait for Halimat
She who pulled the strings of my heart.
I longed not for wine nor food
Save the sight of Halimat in the neighbourhood
I had no gifts nor money to offer
But I want to sing love songs like a woofer
For hours I tarried but Halimat came not
And as I headed north
To take my leave
My eyes fell on yellowish leaf
On which sat two butterflies
Two lovers in a relationship devoid of lies
Found themselves entangled in a romance
Before a man who's not found love in Mars
Then the irony of life besieged me in a flash:
That love was smooth and simple
Until the woman ate the apple
And out of the pot of life man brewed thrash.
