Zombie ants sound a little weird, but that's what I found today, around ten in the morning I was trying to find some bugs in the bushes on the edge of the trail for today's shoot.
Morning is a good time to hunt for insects, but what I saw this morning was really unexpected. I found an ant that had lost one of its limbs.
This ant lost its stomach maybe due to a hunting insect attack, but what amazed me is that it survived or maybe something has entered its brain, like the parasitic fungus Ophiocordyceps unilateralis which has controlled his nervous system and brain.
The body of an ant that has been infected with a parasitic fungus will still be able to live like a normal ant but the parasite will slowly kill it.
I'm interested in capturing some of these images and converting them to black and white as my entry for the #monomad challenge, hope you like it.
