I'm sitting in a rocking chair in my in-laws' living room wondering about what to write about. So I think this might turn into one of those winding chain-of-thought posts.
I took some photos of the dogs a couple of days ago.
It was a rainy day. This is Ninnu.
We didn't walk very far that day. Normally our walks can stretch to 4 or 5 kilometers long. The girls really are quite tough and resilient, and they like to have long walks. But getting wet isn't something Ninnu particularly likes.
The youngsters don't seem to mind getting wet, but Ninnu — and lately Muffin too — have grown a bit weary of all the Finnish monsoon weather at the end of summer and beginning of autumn.
Tessa and Bella...
The youngsters always crowd in front of the camera or smartphone if I'm taking photos.
Finnish has a rather nice word for them: linssilude — literally something like a “lens bug,” meaning someone who always wants to be in front of the camera.
Clockwise from left to right: Tessa, Bella, Ninnu, and Muffin
Whether the dogs actually enjoy being photographed is another question. They may simply have concluded that a camera is a device for summoning human attention.
Today was a cake day for Miro and his grandmother — although Miro's 16th birthday is tomorrow, and his grandmother's 70th is only five days later — Veera still baked the cake for this weekend, since we were visiting the in-laws anyway and Miro has school tomorrow.
The GrapheneOS Gallery app doesn't do justice to the cake. Although neither would the native Pixel 8 AI photo edit I think.
Anyway. Writing the post took so long on the phone, so I had to save it into drafts and continue editing it at home. So now I'm back home.
The drive back kind of made me feel a bit ill. I really hope I am not going to catch anything.
Maybe it helps if I get to bed a bit earlier tonight.
I've been sleeping too little lately. My average is about 6.5 hours, and I should probably start stretching it a bit longer. I hear it doesn't do much good for the brain — or anything else, really — to spend too much time awake.
On the other hand... I would love to read a book. I had a discussion with the father-in-law about Jack London, Hermann Hesse, and Mark Twain, and their books. I realized I used to love reading when I was younger. The teenager me pretty much always had a book in front of him.
There are a couple of books that I've been reading, but have been lying face down for quite a while now — maybe months — somewhere around the middle. Two I think... One is Plato's Republic, and the other one is Fluke: Or, I Know Why the Winged Whale Sings by Christopher Moore.
Today's post is a little bit all over the place, I know. Maybe I am a tad under the weather. Can't seem to keep my thoughts in place either.
