Behold, my friends, the spring is come; the earth has gladly received the embraces of the sun, and we shall soon see the results of their love!
- Sitting Bull -
Yeah, yeah Sitting Bull, I get it...but this year the planet doesn't seem to want to play along. So, I'm going to call you Sitting Bullshit in respect of this quote at least, good though it may be.
If you look back through the five-plus years of my posts you'll find reference to the weather here where I live. Fortunately my area doesn't experience the harsh winters other locations do and I'm often boasting commenting about our cool to moderate day-time temperatures of around 14-20°C and the many days of clear blue skies we have. It's rather glorious really.
Moving into spring means the temperatures rise into the 22-30°C range and, whilst we typically have the odd downpour now and then, the days are generally splendid. This year though...Well, winter was shite and, despite hopes for a cracking start to spring...spring has been shite too.
By now I'd usually be hiking in shorts and a t-shirt but on Saturday's hike I had on long pants and zip-up vest over a long shirt. What the fuck? There was some blue sky, as evidenced in the images I took, but don't be fooled, it bloody rained on me too! Still, despite having to say, what the bloody fuck #WTBF several times as I trudged in the rain, I actually enjoyed the hike which went on for about two hours.
I'm still breaking in my new boots at the moment, I've not had as many opportunities with the weather being rubbish and my work commitments; I mean my real work, not Hive, although the latter certainly takes up my time. They're coming in well though, a little less rubbing each time, and far more supple. Hikes like I took yesterday help a lot, the sustained walking in various terrains. I think they'll be good to go after maybe two or three more hikes...as long as the weather permits it.
I don't usually complain too much about the weather, except when it gets really hot in summer; Australian's summers in the part of the country I live in can be hellish. But this year I've found myself feeling a little annoyed and becoming increasingly despondent with the unusually grey, dour, cold and rainy days we've been having throughout winter and now into the second month of spring. It's got to break at some stage. Right?
I don't know what's behind the strange weather patterns and change in conditions we're getting here. Some say it's global warming, some say, with compelling evidence, we're on the way to a new ice age. Some blame plastic straws and those little plastic ties that keep bread bags closed...I don't know what the truth is. Maybe it's just as simple as the planet reacting to humanity in general because, after all, we do treat it rather poorly.
Either way, and whatever the contributing factors are, I look forward to quoting Sitting Bullshit Bull in respect of spring's arrival and to not having to whine about the weather so much...if spring ever arrives.
What's up in your neck of the woods? Has your weather followed the form or has it been a little wacky and unpredictable? Feel free to comment about it below if you're interested in doing so, let me know what's up and how the weather has, or hasn't, effected your life lately.
