The reward of a thing well done is having done it.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson -
I was thinking back on my hive blogging journey today; recent changes have meant I have less time available to spend on the blockchain and whilst I'm responsible and disciplined enough to accept the change and work with it I also miss that time I'd spend; not just the time actually on the blockchain but writing for it. I find writing relaxing and usually spend a lot of time doing it - My change of schedule has inhibited my opportunities though.
I took the photo of that stack of money a couple years ago now and used it today to punctuate my point...That is: I initially started blogging on the blockchain for the money. I didn't make much really, but kept plugging away, posting daily, and commenting with relevance and validity on other people's posts which helped attract them to my own.
The thing is that I very soon came to the understanding that I'd come for the money but stayed for the enjoyment. I found so much value in posting, ordering my thoughts and putting them out there. I've written about positive and negative things, happy and sad, success and failure and most things in between and whilst I earned some magic internet money by doing so, I've found equal reward in having done it.
I started on the 13th June 2017 and, like the energiser bunny, just kept going and going and going. Sometimes I wonder how I've been so consistent and then I remember: Effort.
It's through that effort I've built my account to where it sits today and I credit the relationships I've made and nurtured for that. I'm not a big account, not by any stretch of the imagination, however I feel satisfied my efforts have been rewarded and whilst time may be harder to come by these days I intend to continue making that effort.
Yesterday I took a look at some statistics generated by HiveBuzz and whilst I'm not a trophy hunter I'll admit to feeling pleased to see my consistency on the blockchain through those numbers.
I'll not say the figures here, you can see them for yourself if you like, but there's two I'm kind of happy about. I've posted every day of the week for 175 weeks and have posted every day of the month for 28 months. There's no prize for having done so of course, the reward comes from having done it.
I don't know what the future holds for me, none of us do I guess, although more of the same is a good bet for me. I mean hive-blogging. I'm not sure what that looks like at the moment though; I'll fall into a routine eventually I guess and whatever it is will be my new reality.
I've made some great relationships here and there's a few who regularly scan my posts and comment sometimes which is one of the greatest rewards; that connection with others. Some have similar likes and dislikes and others are completely different but it's the mix that makes it kind of special - the way people from far away places can connect on meaningful levels with others - and it's that connection that offers its own reward.
Do you remember your first weeks on the blockchain? What brought you here and what makes you stay? How did you begin to build your account, establish yourself and connect with others? I'd like to know so feel free to comment below if you'd like.
