Those are old gum trees that have been overtaken by the lake. The water has a salt content, the remnant of an ancient inland sea, the entire area is, and sometimes the salt content rises if not enough fresh water flows in, which eventually kills off the trees. Those tree skeletons make for an interesting view and can look quite dramatic in the right light.
