I think one of the issues is that there's so many people that no matter what we do there's an impact on the planet. Planting trees for instance, it's never going to keep up with the rate at which we destroy trees, the Amazon for instance.
Responsible consumption is important, people can't seem to do it though as they want more more more.
I reckon the population should be cut by 75%...I know, not a popular opinion but it's my opinion nonetheless. I also think someone should turn the power off (the electricity) for a hundred years. Sure, not a popular opinion but that doesn't bother me, it's still my opinion.
Humans go around talking about fixing the environment but do fuck all to fix the environment. Most initiatives are simply money-making endeavours designed so the rich get richer with no real intention to fix the environment.
Has commercial fishing been banned? No. You know why? Because we have to feed so many people and it makes money. Drop the population and there's less impact. But nope, it's increasing at an alarming rate. There's 8.3 billion people on the planet, that means 6 billion would need to go. Seems like the planet much actually stand a chance.
Humans won't let this happen though and so things will go from bad to worse, a few people will plant trees while 100 million sharks are killed by humans each year - sharks are the cleaners of the world's oceans. 20% 0f the Amazon forest has been def0rested since 1970 and more and more of the planet gets covered in concrete and paving, rivers are polluted and diverted, ground water pumped upwards, mines dug, plastic discarded...
Eventually humans will become extinct. Think about pond scum in a pond that grows and grows using all the resources and then dies. That's humans. Scum.
