As an Australian, and one who hunts, off-roads and camps I see snakes a lot...I never get used to it though, they give me the creeps. Although, they are probably happy to stay well away from us.

Our snakes aren't as fast, but we have eight of the ten most deadly so we afford them respect. I stepped on an Eastern brown, (most deadly) when my foot went through the ground into a hole up to the knee. I pinned the snake so it couldn't bite me, by accident of course, but it was thrashing around to get free, thumping on my lower leg and all. I had to make a choice, stay or try to extricate myself. I chose the latter, leaped away and looked down into the hole...The snake coiled up and bolted further into the hole, tunnel complex fortunately. I have nightmares for months. An untreated bite from an Eastern brown is fatal in an hour if untreated.

I'll do a post on it maybe this week, just for fun. It's a good story.

Your rattlers are fairly aggressive right?
