Yesterday I finally started my latest Lego build, the Mack Anthem truck. Here you'll see the very first stage which comprises the two rear axels of the prime mover, differentials and trailer hitch.
Above is a shot showing the completed section pictured from the rear. You will note I've also applied the decals to the mud-flaps and rear light section plus the number plate.
Below is the very first section built as part of stage one. You will note that red shaft to the left which is the drive shaft that will eventually connect the two rear axle differentials to the transmission. The two diffs are show here also, the two grey round things with the yellowish cogs in between the lighter great shafts which are actually the axles.
This image below shows a closer shot of one of the two differentials. This one is for the front set of drive-wheels. All of these parts come as individual parts in the Lego set; There are no sub-assembled sections so the builder needs to piece them all together.
Above is the chassis section with a little more strengthening added over and around the two rear axles and diff-section. You will also note an assembly sticking up here between the two wheels...That's the trailer hitch.
Here above and below you can see the fully-completed stage one of the build from a couple of different angles. Again in the image above you will note the tow hitch which has a moveable locking pin to couple up the trailer. In the image below you will note that red shaft with a light grey uni-coupling on the front (to the left of shot)...That's where the drive shaft connects to the transmission to provide drive.
Also, you'll see little connectors poking out here and there, especially on the front section. These will be utilised when connecting the rear chassis to the front in build stage two.
From here the next stage is to complete the front section of the chassis including the engine and steer-wheels. I'm not sure when I'll get to that as I have to go back to work on Monday but soon hopefully.
