The legend of Aka Manto is one of the most widespread urban legends in Japan . A dark story that speaks of the ghost of a woman, who lives in the last of the toilets of women in public bathrooms.
Apparently, years ago there was another version of this horror legend that spoke of a man dressed in a red cloak hiding in the lockers of a primary school in Osaka, back in 1935. Later, about 1940, the Legend led to a kind of vampire that terrorized a Tokyo neighborhood with a red cape. However, the current legend would begin to spread back in 1980 and would take the form of a woman.
Aka Manto, which means Red Cape in Japanese , is the spirit of a woman who inhabits the public baths of Japan. Usually hiding in the last of the toilets frightening all that young woman who uses it. Apparently, Aka Manto was actually a young girl subjected to the constant humiliation of her schoolmates. Now, once dead, her only objective is to pay with the rest of the world the humiliations she went through during her life.
The legend says that once inside the toilet we will hear a sinister voice asking us "Red or blue paper?" . After this question, two rolls of paper with these colors will appear. If the person chooses red, Aka Manto will appear and skin his victims. It will pull its skin off little by little so that the victims can feel the pain as they bleed to death.
On the contrary, if the victim chooses the blue paper, the evil spirit will cut the person's legs so that he bleeds little by little.
Apparently, dodging the question does not work either, although many versions claim that it is the only way to escape the wrath of Aka Manto. However, others say that if we choose to dodge the question will end our life equally.
Likewise, if we choose another color, a hole will open from which white hands will begin to emerge that will drag the victim into absolute darkness.
Some versions say we can get rid of Aka Manto running as soon as we hear the voice. However, many others say that if this happens, Aka Manto could appear in front of the person blocking the exit and ending his life in the same way. Also, others say that during this appearance the bathroom is completely blocked, as in a parallel dimension, preventing the victims from leaving. Undoubtedly one of the most hopeless horror legends in Japan, because the truth is that it seems that Aka Manto is very clear about his goal, to end the lives of people.
Although it seems impossible to escape this spooky apparition full of hatred and anger, the truth is that if we answer calmly that we do not need paper, there is a small possibility that Aka Manto will allow us to continue living. Maybe it depends on the mood that the spirit presents at those moments, because the truth is that this escape route does not always work.
