Continuing on from my Part 9 post with the Book of Proverbs written by King Solomon the son of King David... Most people have heard of the name 'King Solomon' and quite rightly too. The bible tells us he was the wisest among all men, "And he spake three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five."
1 Kings 4:32
Contrast of the Righteous and the Wicked
1 A wise son makes a father glad,
But a foolish son is a grief to his mother.
2 Ill-gotten gains do not profit,
But righteousness delivers from death.
3 The Lord will not allow the righteous to hunger,
But He will reject the craving of the wicked.
4 Poor is he who works with a negligent hand,
But the hand of the diligent makes rich.
5 He who gathers in summer is a son who acts wisely,
But he who sleeps in harvest is a son who acts shamefully.
(Proverbs 10)
Proverbs of King Solomon
The memory of the righteous is blessed,
But the name of the wicked will rot.
(Pro 10:7)
He who walks in integrity walks securely,
But he who perverts his ways will be found out.
(Pro 10:9)
Hatred stirs up strife,
But love covers all transgressions.
(Pro 10:12)
The wages of the righteous is life,
The income of the wicked, punishment.
(Pro 10:16)
My own
23 'He who whines neglects the passage of time'
24 'He who makes time for the poor will overcome time itself'
25 'A lying mouth is as much use as a rusty sword'
The stark contrast between the wicked and the righteous given by Solomon clearly shows the regard the Lord has for those who do the Father's will and for those who do not. May we rest firmly in his love and then all other statutes are upheld without much conscious effort on our part. The Pharisees were the most knowledgeable in religous matters at the time of Christ and yet they forgot this simple idea which ultimately led to them willingly taking the blood of Christ on their hands resulting in their eternal damnation. May we remember to rest in the love of Christ. How we ask? Pray continually and don't overthink it.
