The game is called Book of Demons, but the one who crushed Blizzard's classics just knew that it was the first Diablo. Almost the same as before, and yet completely different and unique. How is it possible? The skilful creators took over the story and the basic concept of the original game and adapted it to modern times. So many will be aware of you, but at the same time you will be familiar with the totally new features you will experience in this genre for the first time.
The very look of the game is remarkable - everything is made of paper, it looks simple, but not at all bad. It has the style and the necessary level of detail. It is elegant, complemented by modern effects, high-quality sound and music. Only the movement in which the scarf and the crotch do not work is a little sterile. Sala, however, has an excellent atmosphere and a certain fairy-tale. But do not be mistaken, it is not a toy for small children, although the first levels of the underground maze under Tristram (well, that's the city called otherwise, but you will certainly know) are quite easy. Especially if you choose the lowest difficulty. But the third, the tallest, labeled roguelike, gives the idea that the game can be touched and it really does happen. The threat and difficulty of enemies in the underground labyrinth with tens of floors is increasing, and the game mechanics and possibilities - both you and your adversaries - are expanding with it.
Roguelike's harassment is characterized by the fact that the death of your character can be permanent. This is true if your hero kills and you do not have a thousand, at the second end two thousand, a third for four thousand and then more and more gold coins. In short, when you have nothing to pay for a revival, the game for you definitely ends. And since you also pay for services that are free of charge or much cheaper at low pay, one coin will be precious. In any case, the game will record your progress only to the first death of the character in the global world of the best heroes world. So if you want to be part of the elite, you have to be devilish.
You choose a warrior and during the progress you will also unlock the archer and magician. Beginning in the town above the maze, you can almost return at any time. And either after breaking down the individual floors that are ever deeper in the country or the city portal. Or when you die ... The city is once again quite aware of the characters, who have a very well-known dubbing and appearances. It's actually just one screen where you can click on the healer, the bartender, the sage, and the bitch, and when you have nothing to talk about or just do not need their services, click on the maze. Each of these people will give you some information, and it is somewhat beneficial. You can instantly cure and add debris here; the bartender is waiting for a boiler with rewards (we will return), and at the age you will improve your skills and equipment cards. And the one who looks like Deckard Cain will identify you with those cards you do not know about yet and unlock more slots for their use.
When we mentioned the cards, you probably pointed out. That's right, in Book of Demons, you are building your package. It is made up of several types of cards, which are coin-boxed, barrels, altars and defeated enemies. On the base cards, there are blasts and various abilities that you can use in combat if you have them in active slots. Some cards need to be recharged and the spell requires a blue maneuver. Then it is still green, it can not be used and replaces blue when you have artifacts. That is, the more artifacts, the less energy to enchant. But after their postponement, the level of blue is rising again. Artifacts are actually bonus cards that (if they're also in slots) permanently improve your attacks, increase defense, or otherwise reinforce the character. Cards can be upgraded to a higher grade using a fleece (also carded), more star and more rarely magical or legendary.
In the maze, you first learn the basics and gradually learn the advanced options. Your character must fight to the bottom of the hell above which there are dozens of floors filled with monsters. There is an important task in every third. First you have to destroy the hellish chef, then the antipop and finally the hell. Yes, it is actually a butcher, Archbishop Lazarus and ... of course, Diablo! So, iconic characters from the Blizzard hit.
Interestingly, although you have to go through all floors, you can set the size of each level yourself. All are randomly generated, but may have small dimensions, fewer rooms and only a few floors, which you can reach in five minutes. Or, on the contrary, you will choose an extensive level where everything is more and you spend an hour there. It means more enemies, as well as experience, increased rewards, and a lot of money. In addition, you will move a lot more deeply into the maze of the maze in one level. You can also choose something between them.
Each level of the maze is shown in the diagram, where you can see its range and the enemies present, who may already be known or marked by question marks. Then you will find yourself in the first room and begin searching for stairs to deeper spaces and, of course, fighting creatures. Again, this is somewhat unusual. Your hero moves only along the marked paths, but has a reach on all objects around and enemies that may occur outside the sidewalk. The movement is a bit constraining, but you can also attack the goals that are further away from you. And even with a warrior, whose sword, even without approaching, will hit all the enemies on which the hero will learn, which can be several meters. It's otherwise quite resilient for beginners, so it's also accessible first. The artillery blows enemies who are already outside its viewing angle, but the arrows do not cross the objects in the missile. In addition, you should not let your enemies go too much on your body. The wizard shoots an effective magic missile but has a very fragile structure.
Each character automatically attacks the threats in the neighborhood, but these attacks are slow. It's much faster to manually target enemies by holding down the mouse or gamepad button. In this way, you break objects and open the chests, you only show the spoil and it is yours right now. Later it is not enough just to show a skeleton, a horned demon or a flying monster. You need to look at their properties and tailor the tactics. For example, there are enemies with extra protection - you must first aim and smash the character with the shield before you can take a heart. By the way, the amusement of your equipment also includes armor, which will bring you back some of the lost life, just by picking up the hearts that beat the hell out of you.
You do not hurt the wizards when they are just spells, but you know how to break them if you point the icons over their heads and hold the button. You have to win over bosses in several phases and expect strong resistance and annoying hops. Some enemies can only be wounded after you kill their minions who are literally attached to them - you can see the lines that connect them. Similarly, with some chests - it is necessary to destroy the interlocking treasure hunters first. Funny is a mini-game when you're stunned - you have to pick up the stars on the screen and you can continue.
The beast is fairly varied, and it includes, for example, those biting, who leave the poison after the explosion, which can poison the hero. The flying demons are protected by a stone form, the horns have a random number of hearts, and out of the fight they are drowning. And you will also find ghosts with frosting spells that appear in carnage and a different kind of javelin, which is a joy to kill. But when you get to the finals, the opponents are already repeating themselves.
Your hero is collecting experience and you choose a point to life or mane at each new level of character. The other one you despised with the ingredients is moved to the barmankin boiler. And after you arrive in the town and pay you get an interesting reward from the kettle. But if you die, you can come up with its unselected content. After death, you will temporarily come to terms with things, but they are waiting for you at the tombstone in the maze at the place of death.
During and after the fight, you will notice many small but useful elements and components. For example, at the top of the screen, you can see icons that indicate key things in the level and how many objects and enemies remain to clear the entire level. There are traces on the sidewalks, so you know where you went and when the prints are gold, the surroundings are thoroughly searched. Simply zooming the mouse wheel will use both zoom and map view. And when it is clear, you can immediately move to the exit with another icon. Then add the experience of your avatars, which are stripped of new portraits. The game will also show you the optimal options, which is why you should now go to the city, because there is something for you to improve your cards, and so on. They are really little things, but thanks to them, the disgrace in the game is very comfortable.
After defeating the Devil's King of Demons, which can happen for some 8-10 hours, the Freeplay mode will be unlocked, where you choose the maze type (labyrinth, catacombs, hell), and there are four difficulty choices that can be challenging. There you can continue to massacre creatures. In addition, you can also install the free DLC Dungeons & Streamers in the Book of Demons. It adds Twitch and Mixer support and other players - viewers can interfere with the game. They will use commands and put monsters and traps in your way or help you. However, you can determine the impact of these participants.
