Commissions and happy days ahead!

Good morning guys! I miss you all, sorry for my inactivity. I just had been so busy with a number of errands.

Anyway, I believe we are all heading to brighter days. And as a hobbyist like me, I am looking towards more artwork commissions so yeah, if you are interested, please contact me.

I am also looking towards a healthier lifestyle that is why as much as possible I should be sleeping before the clock strikes midnight.

For today, I will share to you one of the commissioned artworks I made, but before that I will share to you how my morning is going well so far and how the night prior today went.

I had an amazing sleep. It is my second day staying here in my cousin's house. As you can see on the photo above, the room is pink and filled with stuff toys. Basically not mine because if I took a photo of my room you would know it is mine because it has a number of indoor plants inside it and art materials around. Most of the time, my room is a mess no matter how many times I try to clean it!

Anyway, let's proceed with the art process of this commission. Just a brief background though. It was Kuya Reo who asked me to paint a portrait of his father as his birthday gift to him. I, being in dire need of money because of a lot of bills to pay said yes to him in an instant.

Hard times indeed!

The moment I received the image that I would be painting, I really told myself that this is such a beautiful photograph that I should interpret beautifully using my paint brush.

My hands were shaking a bit when I started sketching using my. 05B mechanical pencil. Of course even though I was just only making the sketch, I felt so obligated to give my very best because the subject of this artwork means a lot to the one who commissioned me.

The sketch was not that perfect though but I made sure that I would not compromise the details in the process.

Watercolor indeed requires a lot of patience. At first I told myself that it may not seem like I would achieve what I wanted to achieve, but I should trust myself and the process.

As you can see on my previous works, I do not carefully plan my artworks in terms of how I am going to put the colors.

As you can see, I used the yellow ochre paint which has been watered down, meaning I mixed it with a lot of water so that it would not be that bright.

By the way, I was using Winsor and Newton Cottman Series watercolor for this one. It only has 12 colors and no black in it that is why it took me a lot of layers and mixing before I would reach the color black that I want to reach.

The green that you can see is also a mixture of blue and yellow as well.

While working with a limited palette, I learned the value of mixing colors. Although one can say it is just a 12 color palette, it is still a good bargain because Winsor and Netwon Cottman has vibrant colors and it is light fast.

In painting using watercolor, also remember that you really do not need to paint the entire watercolor paper with watercolor. You need to leave some areas alone especially on the highlights.
