Market Update
At the time of writing, the Bitcoin price is sitting at $11,126 representing a loss of 1.7% in the last 24 hours. More than $830M worth of BTC were exchanged in the BTC/USD market representing a 32% share of daily volume, while the BTC/JPY pair represents a 42% share.
The Ethereum price has dropped by 1% over the past 24 hours and is currently sitting at $1,172, with over $440M worth of Ether exchanged in the past 24 hours on the ETH/USD pair which has a 31% market share of the daily trading volume.
Bitcoin Exchange BTCC Just Got Acquired By Hong Kong Fund
Bitcoin startup BTCC has been acquired by a Hong Kong-based blockchain investment fund. While details remain scarce on the deal, BTCC said in a press release that the move will help its efforts to expand internationally following its recent closure in mainland China. Bobby Lee, BTCC's co-founder, said:
"Today's acquisition is an incredible milestone for BTCC. I'm very excited about the resources this gives BTCC to move faster and aggressively grow our businesses in 2018 and beyond.”
Japanese Electronics Retail Giant Launches Bitcoin Payments
Major Japanese consumer electronics retailer, Yamada Denki, has partnered with cryptocurrency exchange bitFlyer to add Bitcoin payments service in two of its stores. Launched this weekend, according to a press release, one of the stores to receive the new service is based in Shinjuku, an area of Tokyo that attracts large numbers of foreign visitors. The other store is adjacent to Tokyo's main business district. The company said:
"In addition to diversifying our services, we will implement initiatives to improve Bitcoin recognition and usage promotion."
Philippines SEC Plans to Regulate Cryptocurrencies and ICOs
Yesterday, the Philippines’ Securities and Exchange Commission said it is crafting a set of rules to regulate cryptocurrency transactions, to mainly protect investors and reduce the risk of fraud. The regulation, which will cover issuance and registration of cryptocurrencies, is expected to be finalized this year, said Emilio Aquino, SEC commissioner in charge of enforcement and investor protection, according to Reuters. Aquino stated:
"We want to come up with our own set of regulations. You have to be extra careful how investors in this new space are protected."

Bitcoin Cash is down 0.88% to Ƀ0.1472 with volumes of Ƀ11.0k and down 2.51% against the dollar at $1635.64.
Ripple is down 1.24% to Ƀ0.0001111 with volumes of Ƀ10.2k and down 3.13% against the dollar at $1.24.
Zcash is down 1.4% for the day to Ƀ0.0395 per ZEC and down 3.76% against the dollar to $440.64 with an average volume of Ƀ3.6k for the 24 hour period.
Litecoin is down 1.44% against the dollar for the day at $178.16 and down 0.37% to Ƀ0.01607 on volumes of Ƀ5.1k.
Dash is up 2.06% at Ƀ0.06839 with Ƀ5.0k volume and up 0% against the dollar at $764.68.
Iota is up 3.66% to Ƀ0.000224 on Ƀ2.4k volume.
Ether Classic is up 1.39% to Ƀ0.002769 with volumes of Ƀ3.3k and down 0.58% against the dollar at $30.82.
Monero is down 4.48% against the dollar at $304.77 and down 1.97% against Bitcoin at Ƀ0.02743 on volumes of Ƀ3.4k.
