I strongly agree with what you say. The problem is he had bad examples to follow and perhaps he didn't have the expertise and only followed the advise of others to make some money using his (former) popularity, probably for a share of the profits. So, maybe he was the first to be scammed by people specialized in this kind of scam tokens. I'm just speculating here without knowing more either way...
