You are correct, it all depends on the person. Some poeple are happy with 10k a year, others need to maintain their living standard by havin 100k a year.

I think it is important to temmeber the rule of thumb of having 25 times the needed amount as your portfolio value to be able to live off this money. Other than that it is truely an individuality question.
