Before I get into the main point of the article I would like to talk about a movie I recently watched called "Gold", it was just before my account got verified here on Steemit and it was part of the inspiration for my username.

I'll not go into too much detail about it in case someone decides to watch it (which i recommend).
At one point in the movie the main character has to give a speech about his success in the gold industry and he talks about being a prospector not in the stereotypical sense but in the real sense of the word at least how he views it.
Simply he says a prospector is someone who wakes up everyday believing that "its" (success) out there and he looks and looks and as he says in the movie "it's not!" but he wakes up the next day and the next day and the next and so on without finding "it" but he keeps getting up relentlessly every morning and keeps looking "That is a prospector".
Truly I can relate to this and I'm sure a lot of people here also can relate.
Its hard to find success doing something you love and it gets harder when everyone thinks your crazy for looking in the first place but we keep going anyway because I/we believe that it is out there.
So now my metaphorical horse and cart has stopped here in the land of crypto-currency, maybe I'm one step closer to hitting that gold-strike but for now there's still a lot of work to be done.

Now on to the main post... as my title implies the plan is to mine crypto-currency, so firstly ill need some mining equipment
and as I'm now a member of the Steemit community y'all are getting a blog about it.

The first step I've taken is lots of research and as I've never really been a computer techie this has been fascinating and has helped me understand computer hardware by breaking down key computer components in a more hobbyist environment.
I've learned all about motherboards CPU's, power supplies, hard drives, graphics cards and all the fiddly bits in between, also how to assemble them and their purpose as part of the entire system.

I plan to build more than one mining rig eventually and as this is as much about learning and having fun as it is about making money I will probably build a rig then improve and add to it as I go and as I can accumulate the funds to make it all possible.

To Start I've got this old desktop (very cheap) and plan on turning it into my first mining rig.

As you can see its quite old but it will do what I need it too for now.
I started by removing the old 2 GB graphics card, cleaning it and selling it off for a reasonable percentage of what the entire system cost ;)

Then I removed the rest of the components and stripped away any unnecessary parts to give me more space..

The empty shell .. all nice and clean.

I put back in the motherboard with CPU attached. I'll need a better one eventually as I can only add 3 graphics cards.
Then the power supply which will also need upgraded eventually and a new 3 GB graphic card which I got very cheap but will actually mine most coins I hope. Also I got a new SSD to store my operating system and mining programs.

Look goods good so far and it technically should work but I dont have a 3 pin power cable which is currently on route, thank you ebay.

So this would probably be a good time to end the first part of my "Becoming a Digital Prospector" series considering I can't do anything else.

Thank you for reading my blog so far and follow me to keep updated as I add more graphics cards and hard drives and maybe even get it turned on.

Keep going fellow prospectors, gold is found by those who look hard enough!
