3FM Serious Request 2011

On the 18th of December 2011 the eighth edition of Serious Request was organized. This time the glass house was built in Leiden, where the city square is called the "Beestenmarkt", the "Animal Market".

Again, 3 radio DJ's from radio station 3FM in The Netherlands, would be locked up for seven days, without eating and just playing requested songs that were submitted via a donation to the Red Cross for a particular theme. This year the charity cause was to help mothers that have been victimized by wars and conflicts. This is a disaster that's rarely in the news, but it touches over 10 million women worldwide, and so the theme became:

"This one's for mama".

Some highlights of Serious Request 2011:

DJ Giel Beelen traveled the country in 2011 with his Serious Request Circus, where he presented with a lot of drama acts and artists from The Netherlands, like Miss Montreal, Pieter Derks, Ben Saunders, Martijn Koning, Kensington and many more. Of course the funds from all entry tickets were donated to the Red Cross and also the auctions at these shows were quite spectacular and brought in a lot of donations!

Also, Frank Dane started the week with a paperclip. Yes, just a paperclip that he traded for other products like a pair of jeans, and later a television to end up with € 20.000,-!! It was hard to believe this happened in a matter of days and this flow ultimately led to an unavoidable conclusion: a new record high fundraising amount would be set, the total amount funded in 2011 was € 8.621.004,-!

The theme song in 2011 was DoLuv2LuvU, by Ilse de Lange, but the song that was most requested and as such contributed most to the cause was Ode to the Bouncer, by the Studio Killers, oh how I still love that tune!!
