Half an hours drive away from home, there are some beaches and forest that we always like to walk at. Often we park our car in front of an abandoned shop. As far as I can remember, this shop has always been deserted. I've wondered, what lies inside - you can see the sales area, peeking in from the front windows, miraculously intact. Some display cases, some shelves, nothing spectacular.
"Store closed", "Firewood for sale", proclaim some old notices on the front wall, flapping in the wind. Iron bars line the windows and the door remains locked.
But the building is larger than the main storeroom. And recently, on our walk of fresh quality forest air, taking a path behind the abandoned shop, we were greeted by this sight - someone had opened the back door.
I hate destroying and breaking things when exploring - after all, many of these places could be explored more than once and why not leave a piece of history for other explorers as well. I'm up for bending a bar here or removing a nailed plank there to get access, but outright destroying stuff is not my thing.
But an open door? Shit, you might as well put up a sign "Welcome!"
Why's the door open now? I've been here multiple times. Maybe it was always open, or perhaps the place has been bought and the new owner is doing preparations to rebuild something here. This is the fate of many abandoned buildings - they get locked down, they get video surveillance and motion detectors - and suddenly a totally refreshed building springs to life.
Or maybe just local kids? The padlock on the gate is removed as well... hmm. I'm going in.
A shelf right at the door greets me, with dusty old bottles. Empty of course! Magazines, jars and whatnots have been revealed from their hiding place behind a curtain.
A narrow corridor takes me to something that seems to have been the main living room. An old fireplace, some suitcases, some empty boxes and a floor so fragile that I'm afraid to step anywhere.
But it's obvious some people have been having a nice time here.
I backtrack a bit, try to make some sense of the puddle of things on the shelves in the dark (I don't have my flashlight, again!), then step in the kitchen.
The kitchen has seen some better times, that's for sure, but it's in good shape - most places that I've visited, are wayy worse. I don't check the cabinets, I don't have time today.
There's another doorway leading to an office of sorts through the kitchen. The floor seems in a bit better shape here, but I'm still cautious. After all, I'd prefer to NOT fall into some sort of dark and wet basement, with mazelike rooms and no exit.
The cabinet features a rally poster from '03 and a bunch of books. There are some kids books open on the floor.
I peek into the last room here, where someone has opened a window, like trying to air the rooms on a warm Sunday. The window opens into a forest behind the house, offering a warm view.
I backtrack again to the main corridor, where there are two more doors. One remains shut - there seems to be something blocking it. I manage to grab a photo from the other one through the gap - this door doesn't open well either.
Seems to be the bathroom. Somewhy this rooms gives me the creeps, perhaps it's this tub. I'm not stepping my toe in there.
I didn't see a door connecting the living quarters with the storeroom, either I missed it or they didn't have one. Stepped outside into the daylight and nice forest air and head on into the forest.
Just googled the place and it turns out that you can buy this lot for 70K euros
