There is something about good contrast that can make even the simplest subject worth looking at. A flower, a leaf, or even a dried plant may seem ordinary at first, but with the right lighting and composition, they can suddenly become interesting photography subjects.
This is one of the things I enjoy the most about black-and-white photography. Without color taking most of the attention, I can focus more on the shape, texture, patterns, and small details of the subject. A simple leaf can reveal its veins more clearly, while the petals of a flower can stand out beautifully against the shadows.
Whenever possible, I like positioning my subject in front of a darker background. The difference between the bright subject and the deep shadows helps separate it from everything around it. It draws the eyes toward the details that I want to emphasize. Good lighting also plays an important role because it can bring out textures that may otherwise go unnoticed. This is something I have enjoyed experimenting with in my previous photos as well. Finding Contrast in the Unexpec…
Photography has taught me to become more observant of my surroundings. Sometimes I find myself looking at an ordinary plant and wondering how it would appear through the camera. It encourages me to look for interesting angles, lighting, shadows, and textures wherever I go.
I think that is one of the best things about photography. It gives me a reason to slow down, become creative, and appreciate things that I might normally walk past without noticing.
Here are some of the photos I took during my walk.
Have a good day ahead!
