Hi Fungi Enthusiasts,
Recently I've been drawn to the mycological world. Through a series of coincidences I've watched hours of mushroom content on the internet and then Netflix came out with a Fungi documentary. Safe to say I feel like it'll be my new obsession. Or that's just the spores growing a mycelial network hijacking my brain...

For a while, I've been contemplating getting into mushroom identification (after having gone through bird, plant, and insect ID) and I think I'll pick up a field guide. I was thinking the Peterson Field Guide to Mushrooms of North America, Second Edition but if anybody has other recommendations I'd like to hear from more seasoned fungi experts.

Over the years, I've learned that you really need multiple pictures of a mushroom to ID it and that it's color can be highly variable depending on conditions. I look forward to learning more of these nuances as I enjoy a challenge. I'm not crazy on eating mushrooms, just interested in their ecology for the most part.

So far I've been logging my sightings on iNaturalist. Are there other well-established sites for mushroom mapping/ID/research I should know about?

Thanks for any tips. I'm looking forward to sharing more of my fungi finds here on Hive in the future!
