What inspired you to build this?
After I learned more about it during the week of Thanksgiving I realized it's full potential. It is an alternative protocol for HTTP and I think that it will actually supplant it in the future. Also, my best guess is that IPFS will make DNS obsolete which would be a HUGE WIN for lovers of decentralization.
Do you often upload files to IPFS?
I do now. It does help that I have my own IPFS server too because sometimes free services won't cache your files if they're too big. That's why I have the interface broadcasting file-descriptors to the HIVE blockchain so that others will see it and hopefully clone/pin your data.
I’m curious if I should use IPFS more frequently, and in what circumstances.
If you are, I would recommend using the interface I made because my IPFS server is scanning the blockchain and pinning/copying every upload it sees. Which means that your file is more likely to exist forever on the network. Or, you could leave the HIVE blockchain out of it all together and just pray that gateway.ipfs.io never deletes your stuff. I might provide an option to disable authentication if that's what people want.
