Good points. Touching on them one at a time..

Taxes. Until people can pay taxes with bitcoin, it will still be regarded as an asset not a currency. You know most Central Banks love their monopoly over money. It'll take a long time for that to happen

way long-term, of course, there won't be taxes 🤓🤓

ya, they won't want to give up the central bank currencies any sooner than they need to. Eventually those currencies will just die out tho. In the interim I imagine what might happen is they simply back their currencies by a fixed amount of BTC.

so we probably won't ever pay taxes with BTC directly, but we'll pay with currency notes that effectively are BTC.

Volatility. This is a major issue. Because of Bitcoin constant change in price, it's kinda hard to do business with. That's why businesses convert their btc to cash ASAP. And if you need fiat to measure BTC value, then BTC won't feel like 'real money'

It definitely wouldn't work as a currency right now, while markets are still discovering and sorting out what it is and if it's secure and if and when it will be used more, etc. Brand new thing.

But its fluctuations are a function of humanity's perception of it right now, rather than anything inherent to it. There's no reason why it has to fluctuate like this into perpetuity, or why markets can't eventually settle on a price. So what we see now really has no bearing and should be no indication of how it would fluctuate after it's known for generations and if it was commonly used.

people often conflate "discovery process of a brand new thing" with "Bitcoin is inherently volatile"

(but really it's so untrue.. unlike stocks and soybeans and etc etc that depend on the weather and have all sorts of uncertainties.. Bitcoin is very predictable.. markets will be able to zero in on a price and it'll be steadier than everything else that exists)

Then there's transfer fees for micropayments like buying a coffee and others...

Some people suspect payments like this would happen off chain. The way we have banks and debit cards today.. it can work kind of the same, where they store your Bitcoin deposit and issue you a balance, and then you can spend it seamlessly.

And the merchants and the banks settle up on-chain in bigger lump sums.

There's also the lightning network which goes above my paygrade, but it's supposed to make it cheaper and easier to send micropayments. And whatever other things we develop over time.

Plus, just my off the cuff thoughts, but energy itself might keep getting cheaper and better, with improved technology and getting better and better at using solar. Seems like there's a kind of limitless ceiling for how good we can get at extracting energy, which in turn makes it cheaper to run the Bitcoin network.

In any case, I suspect there are multiple ways to tackle this and it won't ultimately be a problem.

I like vdux@vdux' thoughts on the issue. It might be an interesting read to you
