For years as a touring musician, artist and traveler experiencing the world through various environments and quick dips into foreign cultures it struck me that the sounds of each surrounding played a huge part in the make of of each place's collective sub conscience. I began collecting field recordings and samples from these environments and layering ambient guitar & electronic compositions over the top. I call the series simply "Environments", modeled after the great late 60's & 1970s Warner Music released series of the same name.
The process is simple, gather material while out in the natural surrounding of a place, bring them back to my studio and parse through the material to find a chunk that I think represents the mood of the environment to it's fullest. I then begin layering ambient pieces over the top, mixing slightly and manipulating to fit the structure baselined in the original field recording. Most of the layers begin as improvised pieces which are expanded on and fleshed out through processing.
