In the old testament, we were given commandments and one important law is Do Not Lie in Leviticus 19:11

“ ‘Do not steal. “ ‘Do not lie. “ ‘Do not deceive one another.
Lying is a very bad sin in the presence of God and the punishment is very severe just like story of Ananias and Sapphira.

These couple used to be members of the early church. Paul and other members of the church were raising money for the development of the church. Ananias and Sapphira decided to sell their land for the funds raising. Ananias and Sapphira took part of the money. When Apostle Peter asked Ananias for the money, he gave Peter some part and lied that they gave all the money they incurred from the sale of the land. And after lying, he fell down and died on the spot and Peter ordered him to be buried. Just as the the people that buried Ananias returned back to the church, Sapphira came in and was asked how much they sold the land but she lied also and also died and was buried.

Presently, we might be under grace but it does not permit Us to sin against God because Paul said in a letter to Romans in Romans 6:1

what shall we say to this? Are we to abide in sin in order that God's grace may multiply and overflow

Lying is not of God. The truth will set us free
