Pleiku is a good sized city in Vietnam's Central Highlands. I didn't like this city very much. I stayed in a bad hotel and was tired from a long drive. There's probably some things to see in this city, but I didn't see them.
The previous day's ride to Boun Ma Thout had been awesome and eventful. This day's ride to Pleiku wasn't very eventful and much of the ride was ugly and full of construction.
I left BMT before 9:00 am. The weather was cloudy, but I don't think it rained. Close to town, the roads were new and smooth.
Soon I hit construction. Some of the construction wasn't a problem. Other sections were very rough and difficult to drive through. It was slow going for a long stretch of the highway. By now the construction should be finished and I'm sure the roads are great.
I did see some interesting sights on the ride. This tower was kind of cool.
This church or temple was a new sight for me. I know the swastica has a history that is much older than the nazis, but I'd never seen a building with this symbol on it.
There was lots and lots of construction on this day's ride. And the parts that weren't under construction weren't very interesting to look at.
The weather was nice though, so I shouldn't complain too much.
I passed through a lot of little towns.
Here's another little town. I just don't have much to say about them. Basically, you just need to make sure that you slow down when you get to the towns. Lots of people are driving around doing local tasks and they aren't necessarily paying attention to other people on the road.
Sometimes weird tractors will make a U turn in the middle of the road. It's always best to slow down when you get into the towns.
The countryside and the construction just wasn't very pretty to drive through.
There was a big farm that looked like of cool.
I spotted another person with a huge load of stuff on their scooter. I'll never stop being impressed by this.
The big flat areas made it seem like the road just went on for ever and ever.
Eventually I made it to Pleiku. The only photos that I have of the city are of the first picture in this post and these 2 photos of the same billboards.
When I was in Vietnam, the country was celebrating 40 years since reunification.
I just spend way too long going through my Facebook posts to see if I had anything to say about this city. I didn't.
It's an OK place that you probably won't miss much if you don't visit it. It was OK.
That's it for this day's ride. Sometimes the days were like this. Not much to write about. The next day was more eventful and more scenic as I left the Central Highlands and started hitting some mountains and jungles. I hope you'll join me in the next one!
