When I was a young bloke still in short trousers there was no television for the proletariat and we just had radio for entertainment. Even then we had to pay a license fee to use it. We sat around the radio set if there was a good programme on and thought it was wonderful.
Many of the entertainers were comedians, male, female and female impersonators, most of whom tried to sing. George Formby made it from radio to the movies and one of his famous songs was 'When I'm cleaning windows'. I think it became popular when the BBC banned it for a while. I am including it here as an epilogue for my cleaning windows series.
