Do you see a circle or an oval on the test card ? After many years of using a laptop I have gone back to using a tower desktop and a 22 inch monitor (an existing TV set). I let the default settings take effect for the monitor and discovered the width was stretched.
I checked the settings by doing a right click on the screen and selecting 'Display settings' . The recommended setting was 1440 x 900 giving a stretched width.
The monitor was supposed to have a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels but when I tried that setting the picture extended beyond the edges. I then tried the simple HD of 1366 x 768 and the picture was perfect.
When I bought the TV the manufacturer lied about the resolution. I notice that on Australian ads that the correct resolution for TVs is now displayed.
You may want to test your monitor with the test card and see if your wife or girlfriend is displaying as too fat.
