I read the post about the reasons not to start Maine-kun and once again marveled at the diversity of people's perception :) Of course, the world would be a very strange place if we were all the same, and yet, after thinking carefully, I decided to write my vision of this issue.
So,
1. Coat's wool.
If you do not want wool at home - do not get yourself a wool cat. There are also holopopiki everyones (which I, however, disdain) - this is your option. From any cat with a wool, whether he is a CW or a PPSH, and even more so DS, there will be wool in the house.
But! There is an opportunity to minimize its quantity in the house to reasonable limits. It must be borne in mind that cats molt on a large scale twice a year: in spring and in autumn. Especially a lot of wool can be in the first year, when the seasonal molt coincides with the age (baby wool changes to an adult, approximately in the interval from 1 year to 1.5 years). What to do, so that the house does not become a wool hell?
First, to systematically comb out your shaggy pet (by the way, and from the formation of collars will help).
Secondly, during a particularly strong moult wash it - it makes it easier to molt, because in the process of washing removes old dead hair. How to properly wash cats at home, I already told in this post .
Thirdly, systematic cleaning of the house, including wet.
And, voila! In the house you can live, wool does not float in soup and compote. Well, clothes can be cleaned with special rollers (or buy one that does not stick to it).
2. Do you eat a lot of Coon?
Well, how to say ... Our second breed is Bombay cats, 2.5-3.5 kg of black charm :) So, Bombay is eaten no less. Judging by the reports of our graduates, about 2 kg of dry feed of super premium class per month goes to one cat. The higher the quality of feed - the lower the consumption, so. And less output, by the way ... Well, because it is digested better. This is in all sorts of witches-felix-freeskas and their ilk with hooves-wool-leather and silage, here you want not to want to eat a lot and a lot of croaking. And in the best forage in the first place - meat! Cats have a protein-fat metabolism, they are obligate predators.
Yes, we also clean the tray once a day. You can, probably, and less often. But, again, we love cleanliness. And so and in the toilet for a week you can not wash off, cho.
3. Once again looking at the sites of the familiar nurseries, I did not understand who wrote about the kuna, how about plush toys. Kunas are companions, unobtrusive in the majority, not sitting on hands at your desire, but always being nearby, helping in everything, actively participating in a family life. There are also cats who adore their hands and lie on top. Believe me, when this carcass (7-9 kg) flops at you from above, you think - what is the happiness that not everyone likes to sit on the handles, there are only two legs, they still have to walk :)
Attention! Kun should not bite and scratch, tear everyone at the tape, etc. etc. At games or manipulations (claw clipping, washing, hygienic treatments, games). Aggression is not pro-coon. If your kun shows aggression towards you, in the game or simply, then there is something wrong with your health (refer to the veterinarian recommended by the breeder); Or it is a problem with education (here the question is primarily to you); Or it is a problem of puberty (the simplest case, castration solves the problem at times).
4. A cat for yourself.
Remember, as they say, the dog thinks: "A person feeds me, loves me, plays with me, caresses me." Hence, he is God. " And the cat thinks: "A person feeds me, loves me, plays with me, caresses me. Hence, I am God. "
Kuns, like all feline - are individuals. If you want a cat to be yours at 146% - buy a soft toy :) And cats - they are not simple, and so it's interesting with them.
5. The most difficult question is Maine Coon's health.
Probably, it is worth starting with the fact that the owners of thoroughbred animals in the general mass are more concerned about the health of their pets and are ready to contact the veterinarian for each sneeze. And veterinarians, in turn, again in the general mass, are ready to joyfully heal the owners of extra money, because there are no healthy people, there are underdeveloped, is not it? :)
HCM - hypertrophic cardiomyopathy - a disease characterized by thickening of the walls of the heart. This disease is predisposed not only to the Maine Coon cats, but also the British (and adjacent rocks), Ragdoll, and other breeds and mongrel cats suffer from it. And the dogs too. For Ragdolls and Maine Coons, there are genetic tests to identify the 2 mutations that occur most often. In order to minimize the risk of developing the disease, breeders hand over genetic tests to their producers, and every year up to 5 years (up to 3 years according to the EU recommendations) do EKG KG of the heart. HCM is not only hereditary, but also secondary.
Cats are alive, they have every right to be sick.
So, when you start a cat (Maine Coon or another - it does not matter), you have to be prepared for the fact that she is alive, she has her own desires and needs, she can get sick, she may have a bad mood, she may sometimes not coincide With your regime (this is rare, usually they adopt the mode of the hosts over time), it needs your attention and care. With the advent of the animal your life will change, that's for sure. This responsibility is not small.
Eleven.
If you, appreciating your strength, said to yourself: "To be a cat" - welcome to the family of us, kotatnikov!
To summarize: a companion, focused on living together with people, unobtrusive, easily finding a common language with dogs and other cats - this is Maine Coon, one of the best breeds of cats :)
