I'm not a big fan of algorithms that decide for me what I would like to see, hear or read, based on I already consumed. This reduces the changes of discovering new things.
In Spotify you are offered new artists or bands, but in the same genre as you already listen to.
I do agree that a stream of posts with the highest payout isn't good too.

I prefer possibilities that allow you to exclude posts with certain tags or from certain communities. In PeakD you can configure tags to be excluded in the #all posts stream.
