When I'm shooting insects (which is a while ago since it's late autumn now) I always try to use the smallest aperture possible to get as much sharpness on the bug as possible.
Since I'm using extension tubes I do lose a lot of light, so I was also thinking about some external lighting. I think about buying a led ring to mount on my lens.
