This week I have made a very special #wednesdaywalk which I want to share with you. We are on holiday in Italy near the Garda lake and apart from relaxing at the pool or the lake we also try to do some sightseeing. That is if the temperatures allow that because it is quite hot at the moment.
Because of the temperatures we decided not to visit a city or village today. My wife found the perfect alternative; a nature reserve with a lot of waterfalls.
The Waterfall Park of Molina is located in the town Molina which is about 40 minutes by car from Verona.
The last part of the route to Molina is a beautiful winding road between the hills.
The park itself covers an area of about 80.000 sq m.
After we had parked the car we had to walk down to the entrance of the park. It was quite a steep path of about a kilometer long down to the entrance.
The view over the park was beautiful. It is such a green area.
After paying the entrance fee to the we could choose three paths through the park; green, red or black. We chose the red route of 2,3 kilometers long since it lead to most of the waterfalls, but wasn't as long as the black route.
The route was still quite adventurous. It was rocky and had some steep climbs and descents.
The route took us to several small and larger waterfalls. At some spots they had build a bridge over the waterfall to het across.
At one spot there was a stairway attached to the rocks which you had to climb all tbe way up to have a beautiful view from above.
The nature reserve also has a large diversity of wildlife. We have spotted many birds, insects and reptiles.
A cool species we spotted was this salamander.
My kids keep calling the lizards they see here salamanders, so I was happy to show them a real one.
I really like the black and yellow colours it has.
It might look dead on the photo, but when we threw a little pebble in the water it swam away.
A little further on the route my wife spotted a snake on the trail. I've determined it with my Obsidentify app as an aspis viper. I've only seen a snake in nature once before, but that was in South Africa, so this was a really cool encounter for us.
I've even managed to take some close ups with my macro lens.
We finished the trail and got ourselves a well deserved slush at the staring point. We needed that to cool off after the hike since we had to walk all the way up to the car again too.
