SMS
SMS (Short Message Service) is the instant transmission of a short text message to and from a cellular/mobile phone. These messages are also known as text messages, texts, txts, or SMSs. It is a low-cost, concise form of communication that has become popular, particularly with young people.
- A SMS exchange between two parties is called 'texting'. Text can be sent and received where normal voice conversations would not be possible e.g. at noisy sports events or during meetings.

-SMS messages often contain abbreviations, particularly numbers for words and the omission of vowels. - Predictive text software 'guesses' words or letters, which makes texting quicker and easier and lessens the need to abbreviate.
