Prose is anything which is written down without any poetic meter. A Poetic meter is the rhythm of a poem and is based on different factors. Syllables per line and what syllables are naturally emphasized or stressed if someone were to read the poem out loud.

There is more to poetry than a poetic meter, of course. Poems are often image-driven and emphasize visual descriptions, including metaphors, while prose tends to focus on aspects such as narrative, characters, and plot arc. In addition, poems also play with the sound of language using repetition and rhyming.

To rephrase that: prose contains narrative and does not follow any set rhythm, while poetry is rhythmic and image-based. So, what is prose poetry then? It's quite simple. Prose poetry is anything that combines these elements into a single piece of writing! If you want a stricter definition, prose poetry is poetry that is not written in verse and contains other poetic attributes, such as rhythm and metaphors.

Steps to follow:

  1. Remove any unnecessary words.
  2. Form a pattern.
  3. Create rhythm.

The following is a paragraph of prose consisting of full sentences:

It is midnight in the forest. The symphony of chirping crickets, hooting owls and rustling leaves enhances the magical atmosphere. Sitting on her throne, the moon brightens the dark sky.
Stars twinkle as they nod to the sleeping world. Suddenly there is a flash of lightning and a clap of thunder! A raging storm is about to shatter the serenity of the scene.

Midnight in the Forest
Midnight!
In the forest
A Symphony:
Chirping crickets, hooting owls, rustling leaves -
A magical atmosphere.

Enthroned,
The moon
Brightens the dark sky.

Stars twinkle -
Nod to the sleeping world.

Suddenly -
A flash of lightning!
A clap of thunder!
The raging storm
About to shatter!
Serenity gone.

This is an example of 'free verse.'
