We made a very big step yesterday toward our new adventure. We bought a new van!! It turned out that the van was like 120 miles from where we currently live, but it looked like it was really something that would fit our needs. We view cars like tools. Because of life's changes, we need to be able to roll with it. In our case, we have been on the road for a long time, and we understand that our Suburban was no longer the right tool for the job.
So about noon yesterday we all piled into the old Suburban and beat feet down to see this van. It was a long drive full of the engine misfiring, and some nerves being frazzled, but we made it. We looked that thing up and down, and even took it out and rode it hard to see what would happen. When it was all said and done we bought the van, and also sold our suburban. I can't believe that he actually paid me anything for it in that condition...but God moved.
Outside of that first adventure, there was another just waiting to be had. The van is a 15 passenger van that normally has 4 bench seats in the back. When we got the van there were only 2 in it. The other 2 were still at the business that had traded the van in. The only issue was that it was about 50 miles west from where we bought the van.
Without even missing a beat we agreed to go pick up the seats. We love travelling on roads that we have never been on before, and it was taking us toward the water. It seemed like a very long drive. The van felt new. You know what I'm talking about. The feeling you get when you drive someone else's car. So it was a bit uncomfortable, but that was to be expected.
We made it over to the place with the seats, loaded them in the back, and took off. We were so close to the water that there was no way we could leave without finding out way over to it. It wasn't so easy though. This place wasn't really a marina type place with boats and beaches. There were alot of large rocks, and not so much parking.
When we finally found a place to park the new adventure rig, we had a bit of walking to do. We found an amazing peer that went way out into Lake Michigan and it had a lighthouse at the end! It was a good, brisk, long walk. I managed to forget my hat and coat, so now I have a bit of a couch, but it was totally worth it.
It was nice to take the family on an adventure again. I think it was just what we needed. We needed to bust out of this farm rut. We needed to flex out adventure muscles, and feel the blood flowing again. I know that six weeks are going by pretty quickly, and I think that we are in the home stretch.
We are starting to shift our view from "ooohhh man, we only have six weeks" to "oooo yes, only six more weeks until we leave". It is amazing what you can accomplish with the right mind set.
