... lift for the #getinshapechallenge💪🏋️
Since challenging myself to see how much weight I could lift over head after 6 weeks, I’ve been practicing relevant movements to the Clean and jerk. This is a highly complex lift to perform, and requires practice, strength and mobility to properly execute different movements and catches.
Last Friday, after completing the same full upper body routine as the week before, I decided to give it a go to perform a 1 rep max overhead. Do keep in mind that this was done after having already performed a personal record set of 3x10 Dumbbell overhead presses with 28 kg to failure. Following a bit of warmup and practice, I first did a 1 rep max overhead press with 65kg, and a 1 rep push press of 70 kg.
Now, a clean and jerk will potentially allow me to move a lot more than that. However, a main limitation is still the technique of cleaning the bar up from the ground to land comfortably racked and secured on my shoulders. I am still quite far away from doing this properly, as can be seen from the video where I pretty much end up picking the bar up to a standing position, rather than dropping down and under the bar to catch it. I also still suck at the finishing jerk, where I still push the bar most of the way up, rather than being comfortable dropping down and below it. Anyways, practicing with heavier weight allowed me to get a more realistic sensation of pulling myself against a heavier object. Something that can't really be done with just a light. And empty barbell.
So while my technique is still dogshit, it was encouraging to see that I was at least able to move whatwas by far a record weight above head!💪🏋️. So it will be interesting to see how much further I can get by the end of the challenge!
Anyways, this video was shared almost a week after it was originally filmed. The reason for that is the fact that on the same day, Justin Sun announced his acquisition of Steemit Inc, which has had most of my attention since then, and I have not wanted to make numerous training posts in a time where many Steemians looked to witnesses and projects like the one's I run for answers and opinions.
But I have not missed a workout despite the busy days, and I look forward to getting back in the habit of sharing my daily progress towards the #getinshapechallenge!🏋️
