The US space agency will send the Insight mission to space, where it will remain for 728 days. The objective of the probe is to explore the deep interior of Mars, with the aim of better understanding the rocky worlds of the solar system and measuring its vital signs through its internal temperature or its seismological processes. According to NASA researchers, the study of these geological mechanisms will allow us to understand the structure of the interior of the rocky planets of the solar system, which in the case of Mars has not changed too much because it does not have tectonic plates, as it does in the earth. As a curiosity, this geophysical robot will have two solar panels that will be deployed once it reaches the Martian surface.
Designed to measure soil movements as small as half the radius of a hydrogen atom (10-8 cm / 2), it requires a vacuum seal around it to withstand the harsh conditions of the red planet. The problem had to do with the breaking of this vacuum system.
The company Lockheed Martin Space Systems of Denver, built the ship. InSight is part of NASA's Discovery Program, which is administered by NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama.
Note that the launch of the ship will be in May 2018 and will reach Mars in November of this year and last two years on the planet Mars.
